The Full Moon in Capricorn on July 13th is particularly complex from an astrological perspective. With many aspects and full of contradictions.

It has four planets in earth signs and three planets in water signs.

It mixes earth with water this Moon and molds with the clay of your soul goals and aspirations to transform yourself.

It stirs within you the need to discover the practical ways and material means to bring your ideas and dreams into the material realm. To give them form, by first… transforming yourself.

On one hand the Moon in Capricorn, practical and grounded, is yearning to take you to a destiny that deep down you know you are hiding.

On the other hand, the Sun in Cancer wants you to head towards it with caution and by ensuring that you will not compromise anything from your security.

The Sun-Moon opposition fills you with tension as you see clearly the situations and circumstances on which you depend emotionally and materially.

Situations which you will have to gradually overcome if you want to move forward on the path of emotional fulfillment and maturation.

This Full Moon is a contradictory blend of determination and careful reticence. A tangle of memories and future goals.

You feel sensitivity together with responsibility, and the nostalgia for the past is being drowned by practical matters of the present, and social obligations. Everything mixes in the clay and you begin to give it shape.

When the New Moon occurs in the enthusiastic and expansive Sagittarius Sign, it usually brings a renewal in spirits and a widening of our perception. It is a moon that fills us with optimism and makes us turn to the future, helping us to grasp the big picture.

 

This New Moon on December 7th is a mixture of exuberance and sparkling allure.

It has at its core the deceptive combined with the lavishly grandiose.

It looks like an invitation to attend the cosmopolitan party that takes place in the majestic mansion.

There, excitedly, we explore the garden and vast space. We talk to everyone, get to know each other and have fun. As the hours pass, the sweet drunkenness of the evening makes us all the more relaxed.

Our mood is tipsy, we attract glances and we vibe with sexual appeal. Within the haze of the drunken hour,  we do not understand that what we are seeing around us is not what it seems, and that the persons we get acquainted with, lead a life of exaggeration. They are here just seeking the experience for the sake of experience, in an effort to fill in their inner void or their vanity.

It is on the next day and without remembering exactly what happened during last night, that with a hangover we are trying to reassemble our thoughts and recollect.

What I wrote in the previous lines conveys in a characteristic manner the essence of this New Moon in Sagittarius. A moon in which Neptune’s participation is very intense.

The energy of this New Moon is expressed from three different poles.

a. Excitement and Exaggeration.

The New Moon takes place in the Sign of Sagittarius. This by itself is adequate enough to fill us with optimism, spontaneity, craving for travel and having new experiences, but is also capable to give recklessness or lack of moderation. All traits of the enthusiastic Sagittarius.

Jupiter is also in the sign of Sagittarius and in a conjunction aspect to the New Moon. The aspect may be separating and at a not close distance of  8° 44’ , but nevertheless it manages to color the New Moon, all the more, since Jupiter is also the planet ruling this lunation.

Cheerfulness, enthusiasm, cosmopolitan flair, desiring to go out and have fun, all in a buoyant, boisterous mood and allegro hype.

The reason I emphasize that all this will be felt with enough exaggeration, is that planet Jupiter, dignified in the Sign it rules, does not channel its energy anywhere else, but only towards the two Lights. The lights themselves are only making hard, square and sesquisquare aspects and as a result the Jovian energy is expressed in its less positive.

b. Seductive Intoxication

Mars and Neptune are in close conjunction in the Sign of Pisces.

On its own, this is an aspect that combines mystery with Zen inertia. It expresses artistically, gives ambivalent sexuality or a unisex sex appeal. It is an aspect of a dreamy masculinity that entails fraudulent actions.

This Mars – Neptune conjuction is like a seducing smile.

Mars and Neptune are at the same time at square aspects to the New Moon.

Here we don’t have planet Mars alone, which makes a square with the Sun and the Moon, and so creating tension, agitation, irritation or aggression. We have a Mars that having adopted the Zen of Pisces, is becoming seductively mysterious under the influence of Neptune.

So…place the energy of Mars-Neptune upon the cosmopolitan mood and excitement that I have described before, and the party begins!

Into the mix there is also Neptune square to the Sun, an aspect that gives idealism, quixotic pursuits and an altered sense of ego.

There is also the square of Neptune to the Moon, which brings non-rational reactions, emotional sensitivity and an escapist idiosyncrasy.

So…the party goes on, in mood of inebriation. We will seduce and we will be seduced. Just, let us be careful not to feel intense disappointment, when the next morning comes.

3. Independence and expenses

Uranus in opposition to Venus has already brought the element of independence in what we like and in how we relate.

It is an opposition that has been in action since last September. The aspect was exact once more, while Venus was retrograde within Scorpio, and it was repeated for the third time, with Venus being direct, a few days before this New Moon.

So… for those relationships that have survived the test of the previous period, caution is now needed, because the New Moon gives in to relaxation, diffusion and an appetite for romantic adventures, which when combined with the Venus opposition Uranus aspect, may easily cause relationship cracks.

This is an opposition that can also bring sudden expenses or even surprises and excitement in our love life, in the case we are single. But any new contacts will not be having long-term prospects.

It is an opposition, which in my opinion plays an important role in the chart of this New Moon, since Uranus is placed at the same degree with the Moon’s Nodes, and at the same degree with planet Mercury that is ready to go direct in the Sign of Sagittarius.

Uranus in square to the Nodes, and Mercury in a trine-sextile aspect to them, just as it comes out of its retrograde motion, is a combination of aspects that reminds us suddenly that we must accept the changes with an open mind. We are coming out of the revision process of the previous days, and though the headache lingers a little more, we will soon be able to make sober decisions, looking towards the future.

Epilogue

The New Moon in Sagittarius on December the 7th is ideal to renew us and make us relax. It seems to be a moon that favors light-hearted fun and escaping by traveling or by reading a good book.

But it is also a moon that calls for our attention to some matters, depending on the house which it activates in our astrological map.

  • It is a New Moon that does not favor new beginnings or plans that need practical and solid foundations.
  • It is a New Moon in which we must be careful not to act with over-enthusiasm and excessive optimism since we find it difficult to realistically assess the situations.
  • Finally, it would be advisable, that we take care to not overdo it with drinking and revelry, be on alert for deceptive loves, viroses and abuses, because all these may easily result in fatigue and emotional exhaustion.

 

That’s why the following sentence from the novel “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald, comes to my mind, as it perfectly sums up the energy of this New Moon.

“I’ve been drunk for about a week, and I thought sitting in the library would make me again sober.”

Gatsby did not manage to make it sober.

We can.

The New Moon takes place at 15°11’ of the Sign of Scorpio. It mainly affects Taurus and Scorpio persons and also Leo and Aquarius persons which are born in the second decan, as well as those having personal planets, points or their Ascendant, near the 12° – 17° degrees of the Fixed Cross.

The activation of the last degrees of the Cardinal Cross affects also Aries, Libra, Cancer, and Capricorn persons that are born in the last 2 days of their Sign, or those hose having personal planets, points or their Ascendant, near the 28°-29° degrees of the Cardinal Cross.

A beautiful, inspiring and empowering New Moon in Scorpio takes place on November the 7th.

The New Moon is the time when the Sun and the Moon come together at the same area of the sky as they cycle the celestial dome and their meeting marks a reset in the ever-changing influx of the lunar and solar energies.

We have emotional control and we are again able to share deeply and intensely, no more being recipients of emotional blackmail or feeling vulnerable, but ready to trust again.

The New Moon is also in a trine aspect to the planet Neptune in the Sign of Pisces.

This aspect makes us creative, feels us with inspiration and make us easily sense the ambient vibes. It can work marvels in our relationships. Now we are in touch with our most spiritual and we care for what is cherished in our hearts. We see the other’s point of view, we walk in their shoes and we can comfort or show that we really understand.

This New Moon in Scorpio is acute perceptiveness that brings renewed spiritual connection (Neptune in Pisces) and regained psychological empowerment (Pluto in Capricorn).

It makes us ponder deeply on those issues relating to the area of life that it falls on our personal horoscope, brings intuitive understanding, makes us feel empowered and helps with closure of the past and moving on to new territory.

Why is that?

Why this New Moon has such an ending quality and at the same time is a new beginning?

Why this New Moon works as a closure or as the final paragraph before moving on to the next chapter?

If we examine the chart of the New Moon we see that Jupiter, Uranus and the Nodal Axis are all situated at 29th degree. This degree in astrology is one of the critical degrees and is usually connected with endings.

 

The Critical Anaretic Degrees

In the chart of this New Moon, Jupiter is about to move from Scorpio into Sagittarius.

It is now time to move on from the truth of the soul to the truth of the world, expanding outwardly and not inwardly, but before doing so we have to face for one last time our deepest emotions, out very truth.

At the same time Uranus, as it moves retrograde, is on the 29th last degree of Aries Sign. Issues relating to how we can embrace freedom and individuality without being self-centered and disruptive to our relations are again of concern.

In addition to that, Venus is separating from an opposition to Uranus, an aspect that was exact one week before the New Moon, and that has created tensions, or to some of us considerations to ending relations or to others even actual break-ups.

The Lunar Nodes are also at 29°57’, critical degrees, as they have just entered into the Capricorn – Cancer axis something that denotes a shifting of energy that will bring the emphasis on a totally new area of life (chapter) for our personal horoscope for the next 1.5 years.

 

Chiron

This repetition of the 29th degrees gives this ending quality to this New Moon.

Accompanying this feeling, Chiron the wounded healer is at 28° 20’ of Pisces.

From there it makes a trine aspect to Jupiter and a sextile and trine aspect to the Lunar Nodes, infusing the lunation with healing energy.

Jupiter is also trine – sextile to the Nodes while Uranus is in a tight square to them at the same time. The one planet bringing sudden changes, the other bringing advancement and luck.

We can now see how the evolutionary path of the Nodes will lead to a new chapter.

Inevitable change and disruption of our security was necessary before us moving into to a whole new territory that has a promise of optimism and expansion. The new will come after having first made closure with the past. This is a necessary process for us, and we have to move on either with our relations re-invigorated or with a new version of our empowered self.

 

Epilogue

This New Moon in Scorpio inspires and moves us within higher frequencies of spiritual rebirth. It is either a renewal of the value that we receive from others or a renewal of our own self.

Mars square Neptune is the Ziggy Stardust aspect. Neptune is associated with illusions and addictions, everything that has a deceptive and ephemeral quality. It is the transcendental glow of glam-rock while it lasts. Mars is masculinity and sexuality, action and urge. Mars is exalted but it is also placed within the “secret” 12th house, something that could hint to Bowie’s bi-sexual orientation.

This becomes all the more interesting since Ziggy, the glam androgynous alter-ego that Bowie had adopted in his early career, obviously a statement of his own bi-sexuality, had supposedly came from planet Mars. Ziggy was attired in glam clothes and with his Stardust surname alluded to drug taking and illusions (Neptune).

“Ziggy Stardust represents the definitive rock star: sexually promiscuous and wild in drug intake, but with a message of peace and love. He thinks he is a messiah in the end he is destroyed both by his own consumptions, and by the fans he inspires”.

This is a description of messianic self-deception wrapped in ephemeral glitter, clearly a Neptune motif. Ziggy’s end in fan adored martyrdom and in a state of drug induced illusory haze is reflective of both the taboo 8th house and the self-destruct and self-sacrificial 12th house themes, that the square of the two planets brings together.

The Mars – Neptune square in Bowie’s natal chart, channels the energies of all of his creative (Neptune) urges (Mars). It expresses Bowie’s glam art, his ambiguous sexuality and is utterly embodied in his famous alter-ego.
